Note: you must have Administrative privileges in order to do the following installation.
- On the STAR CD, goto the \win_nt directory
- Double Click setupx86.exe
- Click the Function menu
- Click Install Sentinel Drivers
- Hit the Enter key, the path to the drivers is correct.
- You will see a message when the installation is completed and successful. The PC will need to be rebooted.
- Rerun the setupx86.exe program, again
- Click the Function menu
- Click Configure Sentinel Drivers, if the dialog appears empty/blank do the following:
- Click the Add button
- The Add Port dialog will appear
- Click the Use Port? to Yes
- Set Bus Address = 378
- Set Bus Number = 0
- Set Bus Type = ISA or PCIBus
- Set Address Space = I/O
- Set Port Type = IBM AT
- Port Ownership Method = Automatic
- Click OK
- The above parameters will be added to the Sentinel Drivers dialog
- Click OK
- You will see a message to restart your PC.
Note: When I did this, and rebooted Windows XP, I got the "blue screen of death". This pointed to a problem with sentinel.sys and also
suggested checking the BIOS settings. I went to the BIOS and modified the Parallel Port configuration under Peripheral Configuration. I changed
the Mode from Auto to Bi-directional and set the Base I/O address to 378, the same as was set when configuring the Add Port.
